Duchess Bake Shop on the cover of the Edmonton Journal

Today we were featured on both the cover of the Edmonton Journal, and in the lifestyle section.  The coverage translated into an extremely busy Saturday.  Thanks to everyone who visited us for the first time today.  We hope you come back soon!

Here is an excerpt from Liane Faulder’s article:

I must commend the Beggs for their hard work in creating the stylish and welcoming atmosphere at Duchess. Garner renovated the space (formerly a pawnshop) with the help of friends and family. The result invites visitors to sit, to linger, and to visit.  Everything is white and gold; elegant flourishes abound.

Magnifique Leanne! You hit the nail on the proverbial head, I can foresee myself making many Many more visits. I was there just a few hours ago & it truly was everything you said. They were quite busy when I opened the door, so I dutifully joined the 7 or 8 people lined up along the display case. As people left with their purchases & I moved steadily forward I felt a bit like a kid in a candy shop. The florentines & macarons were just two of the items that caught my eye, macarons being my primary goal. So I did-when I reached the head of the line-buy both lemon & salted caramel macarons. But the foodie in me was screaming “that’s all, that’s all you’re getting??” So, back in line I went…this time for florentines, ginger cookies, a croissant with italin cappicolo ham and artichoke hearts & a mug of french pressed coffee.

Fortunately one of the tables for two had just been vacated. So I sat to enjoy my nicely made(& quite tasty)croissant &-too hot for me-coffee…not a problem, it cooled as I, yes contemplated another purchase. Curiousity prompted me to try a florentine with the last of my coffee. One bite told me I Must get more of these! Into the rather steady lineup for the third time, for florentines & ginger cookies. I also asked if they’d be making brioche…& yes in time*2 thumbs up*patience has it’s rewards(although I can imagine anticipation limiting that patience, darn!;-) }!
