Renowned Duchess Bake Shop to open second location!

A petite version of the bakery opens late fall

Edmonton, Alberta—Edmontonians living on the southside of the city will no longer have to cross the river to get their hands on Duchess Bake Shop’s delectable croissants and legendary treats. 


Late this fall, the city’s beloved bakery will open a second location in the Ritchie Market. Little Duchess will be a petite version of the Westmount original, serving the bakery’s greatest hits, including its world-famous macarons, Duke chocolate cake, cookies and pies from a condensed menu.


“We are bursting with excitement to serve the southside and join the vibrant community of Ritchie,” says co-owner Giselle Courteau, alongside partners Garner Beggs and Jake Pelletier. “This will be a cute, smaller version of ourselves, and we can’t wait to be part of Ritchie’s exciting food scene alongside our friends at Biera, Blind Enthusiasm, Transcend Coffee and Acme Meats.”


A curated selection of Duchess Provisions will also be available for purchase at the new location, including Valrhona chocolate, vanilla, flours and jars of their addictive salted caramel. The first-come, first-served counter service will keep lines moving, while coffee and drinks will be provided by Transcend Coffee next door.  


“To all the southsiders who have urged us to open a shop south of the river: we heard you, and we can’t wait to serve you closer to home,” says Courteau. “This was a big decision for us, and we have worked hard to deliver the same high quality baked goods Edmontonians have come to love from our Westmount location.” 


Little Duchess will open exactly ten years after Duchess Bake Shop opened its doors on 124 street, with three employees and seating for 10. Today, Duchess Bake Shop has 55 employees, produces 1500 macarons a day, and has garnered international accolades for its pastries and magical gingerbread houses, with profiles in Vogue, The Guardian and Monocle. 


The opening also coincides with the release of Courteau’s hotly anticipated second cookbook, Duchess at Home. It will be published by Random House Canada in Oct. 2019, just in time for holiday entertaining and gift-giving. In 2014, Duchess Bake Shop self-published its eponymous cookbook, Duchess Bake Shop, which became an instant national best-seller and has won three international cookbook awards.
