About our Classes

For class inquiries, call (780) 758-1162 or email info@duchessatelier.com

Our classes take place at Duchess Atelier, located in Holland Plaza at 10936 119 Street in Edmonton.

We offer a variety of hands-on classes on baking topics including Macarons, Pies, Tarts, Cakes, Pâte à Choux, Seasonal/Holiday Desserts, Cookie Decorating, etc.

Our classes are single-session and are typically 3 to 4 hours in length. Please note that classes can run ~15 minutes over or under the allotted time. The majority of our classes can accommodate up to 12 people and are hands-on. This means that you will be putting on an apron, following instructions, and baking. Stations are often set up in teams of two, so if you signed up alone, you may be paired with someone else for the class. If you are hoping to attend with friends, please note that we limit the purchase of tickets in a given class to 4 per person, which ensures that lots of people get the opportunity to register.

Our teachers have all worked in the kitchens at Duchess and are a diverse group ranging from home bakers to professionally trained pastry chefs. We are united in our desire to pass on our knowledge and help people gain confidence in their baking skills.

We release a new batch of classes every 2-3 months, for purchase exclusively through our website. To be notified when our next batch of classes will be released, please sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form at the very bottom of this page. You will then receive an email the week before classes are released, with the full class schedule, class descriptions, and prices.

In order to meet demand for regular classes, we are not taking bookings for private classes at this time.

Our standard classes are designed to accommodate any baking level. We will do our best to make the class a success for you no matter your skill level. We will also offer advanced-level classes for students who have already taken the basic level class in a given topic.

*We reserve the right to refuse registration or cancel an existing registration at our discretion.

At this time we do not offer classes that are specifically geared towards children. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult per child), and we generally recommend a minimum age of 10 years old for even our simplest classes. Adults attending with their children must also register in the class.

Registration & Attending Class

We currently run 7–8 classes per week, some on evenings and weekends and some during weekdays, but are always striving to offer more. We release a new batch of classes every 2 months, for purchase exclusively through our website.

To be notified when our next batch of classes will be released, please sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form at the very bottom of this page. You will then receive an email a week before classes are released, with the full class schedule, class descriptions, and prices.

As many of you know, our classes sell out very quickly, many within minutes, so it is important to visit the site as close to noon as possible on registration day. We know that it can be very challenging to register given the amount of traffic on our website. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, classes are not held for you in your cart, so checking out quickly is the best way to secure tickets. We do have a waitlist option if you do not manage to secure a spot. Simply email us at info@duchessatelier.com, stating which classes you are interested in, if you are interested in weekday, evening, or weekend sessions, how many spots you require, and your contact information. Then in the event of a cancellation, we will contact people on the waitlist in the order they signed up.

*Please note that there is a purchase limit of 4 spots in a given class per person.

Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Unfortunately, there will be no refunds on classes.

You may cancel your registration in a class up to 48 hours in advance and credit will be issued towards another class.

If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or fail to attend a class, there will be no credit issued, and no make-up class offered. This is a strict policy and no exceptions will be made due to illness, weather, traffic, family difficulties etc...  A great deal of time and preparation goes into our classes and with very slim margins, we need as much time as possible to try and fill any vacant seats.  Consider buying a ticket to a class in the same way that you would buying a ticket to a concert or an event. If you failed to show up to an event you had purchased a ticket to, you cannot get credit back from the venue. Please think of our classes in the same way! Tickets are fully transferable and we are always happy to welcome a friend or family member in your place.

It is the student's responsibility to remember the date and time of the class they are registered in, and no credit will be issued should they fail to attend for that reason. This is a strict policy and no exceptions will be made.

To make changes to your registration prior to the 48 hour cut-off, please email us at info@duchessatelier.com or call (780) 758-1162.

Due to the high demand for classes, and the speed in which they sell out on release day, we do not offer gift cards towards classes, as it can be too difficult for the recipient of the gift card to successfully redeem it for a class. We understand that it can be difficult to choose a date/time for someone else, so if you do choose to give a class as a gift, please be aware of our cancellation policy prior to registering, and keep in mind that it is your responsibility to provide accurate date/time/location information to the recipient of the gift.

In exceptional circumstances classes may need to be cancelled. If this happens you will be offered a credit towards another class. In addition, we reserve the right to change the class menu and instructor without prior notice.

If you are allergic or sensitive to particular ingredients, be aware that you may be required to handle all the ingredients used in the class, which may include dairy, nuts, flour, etc. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and recipe testing, our recipes for classes cannot be altered to accommodate food sensitivities and allergies. Allergy awareness is the responsibility of the student and not Duchess Atelier.

We encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes for our hands-on classes. And for all our classes, please refrain from wearing strong perfumes or colognes as a courtesy to the other students in the class.

Duchess Atelier is located on the north side of Holland Plaza at 10936–119th Street. Please use the Duchess Atelier door for classes. There is ample parking in front of Atelier and on 119th and 120th streets. We can be a bit tricky to find, so allow yourself a bit of extra time before your class.
